Boston Summer
Scholars
John Hancock Financial Services has partnered with The Boston Globe to provide more than 500 summer job opportunities to Boston teens. Additionally, this program builds on existing programs at both companies providing professional and life skills workshops to students.
As a financial company, John Hancock will coordinate and fund summer jobs for youth at partnering non-profit organizations and corporations, and The Boston Globe, a news and information company, will provide weekly training sessions for all 500 young people to prepare Boston teens for life after high school.
The workshops are held at the John Hancock Student Village at the Agganis Arena at Boston University. The Hancock-Globe Boston Summer Scholars Collaborative will leverage the resources of both companies in an effort to galvanize more Boston companies to get involved.
Boston Summer Scholars program kicks off in June of 2008 at a press conference held at John Hancock Student Village at Boston University.
Boston Summer Scholars attend life skills workshops each Friday throughout the summer. John Hancock volunteers assist in the facilitation of each workshop.
Boston Summer Scholars join the volunteer Table Mentor for a photo at a Friday morning workshop.
At the Friday workshops, Boston Summer Scholars hear from industry experts about financial literacy, interviewing, and completing college applications, among other topics.
